The airport operator has asked airlines to restrict the number of passengers arriving at the airport in a bid to limit overcrowding. A number of airlines have responded by cancelling flights and reducing capacity. It is expected that Heathrow, which handles an average 180,000 passengers a day, will operate only 50 per cent of its usual flights during the 24-hour walkout over reforms that will make them work longer and pay more for their pensions, part of a raft of austerity measures imposed by the British government.

Pets And Airlines Plane Tickets Prices
Each airline has its own fees for pet transportation. U.S. airlines that allow pets to travel in the plane's cabin charge fees ranging from $69 to more than $175 for a one-way ticket on a domestic flight. The distance traveled doesn't matter -- the pet ticket price is the same for a trip between New York and California as it is to fly between two airports in the same state. There's one big catch -- the pet owner must fly with the pet.
While the range for pet ticket prices is fairly wide, most of the airlines charge between $100 and $150 for each flight. Part of the reason for this is that it's what the market will bear -- people determined to take their pets with them are willing to pay the price. But there may be other factors as well.
One factor might be that the relatively high price most airlines charge tends to limit the number of people who bring pets on board a flight. Most airlines place a strict limit on the number of pets that can travel in the plane's cabin. Several will only allow one or two animals per flight. A higher pet ticket price reduces the chance of multiple pet owners trying to book trips on the same flight
One reason airlines might want to limit the presence of pets is to reduce the possibility of conflicts between customers. Even a well-behaved pet can cause problems on a flight. For instance, a customer with allergies may complain if someone with a pet sits near them. Airlines have to balance the needs of the pet owner with the needs of other customers.
Some airlines offer passengers the option to check their pet with the rest of their baggage. And yes, the cargo section of the plane is pressurized just like the cabin. But in order to follow federal guidelines, U.S. airlines won't transport animals under certain conditions. If the temperature of the cargo hold will fall too low (below 45 degrees Fahrenheit or 7.2 degrees Celsius, by federal law) or rise too high during the flight, airlines won't transport pets. Airlines will refuse to carry an animal if conditions put the pet's health at risk.
There's a much wider range of prices for cargo shipping than in-cabin travel. Prices for cargo pet tickets range from $100 to more than $1,000. Some airlines have a sliding scale of rates that are based either upon the weight of the animal or the size of the animal's crate or cage. Others have a flat rate that applies to animals of any size or weight. And some airlines won't transport animals in the cargo hold at all. If you plan on taking your pet on a trip, you should call ahead and compare prices among several airlines
WHY YOUR PET MIGHT NOT ALLOWED INTO THE AIRPLANE
These are some of the reasons why your pet may not be allowed to fly:
- Overly hot or cold conditions mean that the airline concerned will refuse to fly your pet until a more temperate climate ensues.
- Heavy traffic conditions and During Christmas rushes traffic (December 7th to January 15th).
- Incomplete documentation to the importing countries' specifications. (Be prepared for extra costs in boarding and quarantining until these issues resolved).
- The kennel must be up to IATA regulations ( the construction, and allowances for the pet's height and length within)
Animal Lounge at Frankfurt Airport
Lufthansa's opened Animal Lounge at Frankfurt Airport is Europe's largest airport animal ward. The lounge covers 3,750 square meters (40,365 square feet). All animals leaving, arriving or just making a stop-over in Frankfurt end up here. Be it a dog or a cat, an ornamental fish, a horse, a parrot or a camel - they are all looked after by a vet. Lufthansa, which accounts for around 70 per cent of all animal traffic, said it transports 14,000 dogs and cats, 1,500 horses, two million baby chicks and about 4,000 tones of tropical fish per year. Approximately 20 vets and almost a dozen animal keepers look after the animals in the Animal Lounge.

SHIPPING PETS BY AIR CARGO
Dogs and cats should be shipped via air freight; birds, tropical fish, and small pets such as hamsters or gerbils by air express a division of air freight. Make shipping arrangements as far in advance as possible, so space can be reserved and details about the flight settled. Follow all shipping instructions carefully.
Pre-Planning for Air Travel
- Make flight reservations. Follow airline instructions carefully.
- Acquire shipping container or carrier (for dog or cat) a week or two prior to departure and accustom pet to it gradually. Pet's nap time is a good time to start, and placing its blanket or a favorite toy in the carrier helps.
- Buy shipping container for bird or small pet from pet supply company.
- If pet is being shipped via air freight and your departure precedes that of pet, make boarding and shipping arrangements at point of origin.
- If pet's departure precedes yours, make any necessary pickup and boarding arrangements at destination. Be sure consignee has complete flight schedule and name of airport where pet will arrive (some cities have more than one airport), as well as the Air Waybill number.
Day of Departure
- Feed pet no less than (6) six hours before flight time; normally, no additional food is required for dogs for at least 12 hours. Give pet a drink of water about (2) two hours before takeoff.
- Deliver pet to air terminal on time. Check with your airline in advance to determine if your pet should go to the passenger or air freight terminal and the cut-off time for the flight.
- Exercise pet on leash at airport and administer any necessary medication before confining it to shipping container. Attach pet's leash securely to outside of container.
- Be certain that names, addresses and telephone numbers of those responsible for pet at both destination and origin cities are legibly and durably marked on the container, and on pet's travel identification tag.
- Notify consignee that pet is on the way. Pet can usually be picked up within an hour to 90 minutes after arrival of flight. It's advisable for consignee to phone the airline's cargo office in advance to be sure flight is on time. The Air Waybill number is useful when making inquiries.
- Within two hours of landing, cats should be offered both food and water; dogs should be given a small amount of water immediately upon landing to moisten the mouth after panting during the flight.

VIAJAR CON UN PERRO Y GATO A USA

Normas y restricciones
SEND PETS IN CARGO VS. SEND PETS AS CHECKED BAGGAGE

You can bring your pets on most airlines as checked baggage if you plan to fly on the same flight as your pet. They will take the place of one of your checked bags although they are kept in a separate area from your luggage. The port for the pets is pressurized and temperature controlled so your beloved will be as comfortable as you during the flight.
If you can’t fly with your pet, you will need to send them as manifested cargo and it really is not as scary as it sounds. Your pet will do just fine whichever way you need to send it. We can assist you with getting the right reservations and the best connections if you are leaving
