FLIGHT Animals Cancellations into/from ARGENTINA (EZE) June 13 , 2011 Due to Volcanic Ash in Chile

PetsVentura Pet Relocation Solutions is advising our customers that ash from the eruption of the Puyehue volcano in Chile is once again affecting flights to and from Ezeiza International Airport in Buenos Aires, Argentina (EZE). All flights to and from EZE scheduled to depart Monday, June 13 have been cancelled.

As a result all cargo shipments or travelling with animals got effected as well.

PetsVentura Pet Relocation Solutions is working to proactively re-accommodate any shipments on cancelled flights and to do everything possible to minimize the impact of this event on our customers.

We apologize for any inconvenience and appreciate your understanding. We will issue updates to this information as the situation develops.

Help Japan’s Animals - World Vets is a non-government organization (NGO) providing veterinary aid around the globe in collaboration with animal advocacy groups, foreign governments, US and foreign military groups and veterinary professionals abroad. They are getting supplies and a first responder team ready to deploy to Japan.

The National Disaster Search Dog Foundation has deployed search and rescue teams to Japan

This restaurant recently opened in London's Belgravia upscale neighborhood and the dogs were quick to see the menu at the moment is free. Just like that, the dogs can sit at the table and fill their bellies with organic food served by a waiter, all completely free!

Dog Tries to Help Mortally Wounded Dog - Chile

A tiger cub was found hidden in a suitcase amongst stuffed toys at Bangkok airport

A drugged tiger cub hidden among stuffed toy tigers was found in the suitcase of a woman flying from Bangkok to Iran.

Police say the woman, identified as a Thai national, checked in for her flight but her oversized bag was sent for an X-ray, which showed what appeared to be a live animal inside.

The woman was arrested at Suvarnabhumi Airport before boarding her flight on Sunday and the cub was sent to a wildlife conservation centre, where it is recovering from its trip.

The cub was about three months old and belongs to the Panthera Tigris species, which is native to certain parts of Asia and is the largest of all tiger species.

Uzbekistan Airways - Localization gone wrong

If you browse the Internet in search of examples when marketing materials were poorly localized, there will be plenty of them. As more and more people travel around the world, local airline companies are looking to attract those tourist/business dollars. Advertisement in foreign language is the only way for them to get their word out. Uzbekistan Airways in an attempt to lure the foreigners went ahead with their slogan being translated into English.

We guess the original slogan of the company is wishing the traveler a pleasant travel, its translation makes you think twice before boarding the plane.

Bali suffering rabies epidemic

Aug 7, 2010 — The Indonesian government is to vaccinate all dogs on the holiday island of Bali to combat a raging rabies epidemic that has left 76 people dead over two years, an official said yesterday.
Around 34,000 people have been bitten by dogs on the island, which is popular with western tourists, in the first seven months of this year alone, authorities said.

“We aim to vaccinate all dogs in Bali by the end of this year to curb the spread of rabies. We’ll start to mass vaccinate the dogs in late September,” Bali animal husbandry agency chief Putu Sumantra said.
“There are still hundreds of thousand of dogs that have not been vaccinated. About 200 teams will be deployed to work in 700 villages,” he said.

Unlike the rest of mainly Muslim Indonesia, where people do not generally keep dogs, Bali is a predominantly Hindu island and dogs are common either as pets or strays.
Sumantra said that since 2008, about 300,000 dogs had been vaccinated. Tens of thousands of stray dogs had also been culled.

Bali health agency head Nyoman Sutedja said there were 34,000 cases of people being bitten by dogs in Bali this year compared to 28,000 dog bites in the whole of 2009.
“The rising cases of bites have made us worry. We need more anti-rabies vaccines for people here,” Sutedja said.

San Francisco considers a Ban On Pets

In a ridiculous new attempt of the government to act as big brother and control the lives of its citizens, San Francisco is considering a ban on the sale of all pets excluding fish. This proposed ban would include everything from the sale of cats and dogs to hamsters, mice, guinea pigs, birds, reptiles, and snakes.

The proposed ban - believed to be the first of its kind - would require San Francisco residents who want a pet to either go to another city, adopt one from a shelter, or find it in the classifieds.

This ban would prevent persons who do not have the ability to travel from gaining ownership of a pet.

BRITAIN FACES RABIES THREAT

UKIP Euro-MP Paul Nuttall said: “Rabies is a terrifying disease. Nobody should be able to decree that British people be put needlessly at risk. Rabies has not been caught in the UK since 1902. We have to keep it that way.”

At present, all dogs, cats and ferrets must be vaccinated against rabies seven months before they travel to the UK and must then undergo a blood test to ensure they are protected. But the new EU law, due to come into force in December 2011, will scrap the delay between vaccination and travel, as well as the blood test.

It means owners will be able to wait to vaccinate their pets right up to the day before they travel and the animals won’t even be checked to see if the jab has worked. Rabies expert Dr Paul Burr said: “We are going to get cases of rabies in the UK just so that there can be harmonized pet travel.
