Iams, Eukanuba pet food recalled

Eukanoba The Proctor and Gamble company has recalled the following pet food products due to possible salmonella poisoning. The food was sold at veterinary offices and pet food retailers. The following were recalled:

Iams Veterinary Dry
All dry sizes and formulas varieties dated July 1-Dec. 11, 2010. All UPC Codes
Eukanuba Naturally Wild
All dry sizes and varieties dated July 1-Dec. 11, 2010 All UPC Codes
Eukanuba Pure
All varieties dated July 1-Dec. 11, 2010 All UPC Codes
Eukanuba Custom Care Sensitive Skin
All dry sizes dated July 1-Dec. 11, 2010 All UPC Codes
Canned food, biscuits/treats and/or supplements are not affected by this recall.

Consumers who have purchased the specific dry pet foods listed should discard them.  People handling dry pet food can become infected with Salmonella, especially if they have not thoroughly washed their hands after having contact with surfaces exposed to this product.  Healthy people infected with Salmonella should monitor themselves for some or all of the following symptoms: nausea, vomiting, diarrhea or bloody diarrhea, abdominal cramping and fever. Rarely, Salmonella can result in more serious ailments including arterial infections, endocarditis, arthritis, muscle pain, eye irritation and urinary tract symptoms. Consumers exhibiting these signs after having contact with this product should contact their healthcare providers.

Pets with Salmonella infections may have decreased appetite, fever and abdominal pain.  If left untreated, pets may be lethargic and have diarrhea or bloody diarrhea, fever and vomiting.  Infected but otherwise healthy pets can be carriers and infect other animals or humans. If your pet has consumed the recalled product and has these symptoms, please contact your veterinarian.


Anyone who purchased the food should throw it out. Anyone who touched the food could contract salmonella, according to Proctor & Gamble.

Pedigree Dog Food RECALL

Well now Pedigree Dog Food named Complete Nutrition Small Crunchy Bites is being recalled in the states of California and in Nevada.

A Costco store in Reno, Nevada USA, has taken steps in removing all the bags that they have of Meal Time Dry Dog food with the best buy date of 7 - 2009 and the product codes: 830DFCAT02 and 831DFCAT02 due to possible salmonella contamination.
